Dean of Basic Sciences

Dear prospective students,

I am Dr. Sateesh Babu Arja, and I am the Dean of Basic Sciences at Avalon University School of Medicine. It is my privilege to provide my thoughts about our school, and this message speaks to the confidence I have in our students and our school. Everything, from student selection to the curriculum and training, is designed to develop excellent students into extraordinary doctors.

The curriculum we follow in our school is comprehensive and meets the highest standards. We have certain criteria to select students which not only hold high academic credentials but also possess a serious approach to the medical profession. Personal characteristics of an applicant, such as motivation, maturity, compassion and ambition for a career in medicine, also play a very important role in our selection process.

Our curriculum reflects the curricula of most American medical schools and it is on par with them. We evaluate and train students rigorously by giving monthly exams, daily quizzes and assignments designed to prepare the students for USMLE exams. We are proud to announce that our school is the first Caribbean medical school to successfully implement a daily quiz program for each subject.

Good teaching faculty is crucial to the success of any medical student, and we have exceptional teachers. All of our educators are well qualified and have first-rate experience in training medical students. Our entire teaching faculty is well aware of board exams and can proficiently prepare students for these tests. And because of the small class sizes, educators are able to take a personal interest in each student’s success.

Not only have we concentrated on theoretical aspects of medicine, but we emphasize practical education. We utilize plastinated organs, which are excellent tools for teaching gross anatomy and allow students to understand human anatomy very easily. We are the first Caribbean medical school to use plastinated organs to teach gross anatomy. We also have top-quality microscopes and slides for Histology and Pathology labs. Just as importantly, we have guaranteed clinical rotations in USA for all qualified students.

In addition to the superior faculty and educational standards, the location of the school magnifies the passion for learning. There are few distractions on Curaçao, and it is a very beautiful place to study. Curaçao boasts very helpful and friendly people, as well as fabulous restaurants and a relaxing atmosphere.

Last, but not least, our school has an impressive administrative staff. Everyone is friendly, sincere and always approachable.
